At 5 a.m. Pacific on Friday, October 16, the iPhone Duo pre order window opens, and Apple’s first foldable iPhone starts at $1,999 in the U.S. If you want one on launch day, a little prep this week matters more than how fast you can tap “Buy.”
Phones ordered that morning in the first wave of countries arrive or become available from Friday, October 23. Below is how to get ready for the iPhone Duo pre order, what each payment option asks of you, and the few details Apple still has not spelled out.

How to pre order iPhone Duo in 7 steps
Most of the iPhone Duo pre order work happens before Friday. Do the first five steps tonight or tomorrow, and the morning itself becomes a two-minute job.
- Pick your color and storage now. You get two finishes and four capacities. Making that call in the moment only slows you down, so settle it today.
- Confirm your carrier supports eSIM. There is no SIM tray on this phone anywhere in the world. Apple says more than 500 carriers support eSIM, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, but smaller prepaid brands are worth a quick check.
- Sign in to your Apple Account early. Open apple.com or the Apple Store app, sign in, and make sure your shipping address and saved card are current. Fixing an expired card mid-checkout is the last thing you want to be doing at 5 a.m.
- Choose how you will pay. Full price, Apple Card Monthly Installments or the Apple Upgrade lease each have different rules, covered in the next section.
- Add accessories to your plan. The iPhone Duo Case ($79) and Folio with Kickstand ($129) can be ordered from October 16 as well, so you can grab them in the same checkout.
- Be ready at 5 a.m. Pacific. That is 8 a.m. Eastern. The iPhone Duo pre order goes live right on the hour, so refresh the store page then, choose your model and go straight to checkout.
- Pick delivery or in-store pickup. Delivery is simpler. Pickup lets you collect it at an Apple Store from October 23, and it may come with a small bonus mentioned below.
One more tip: if you plan to use iPhone Handoff, which lets two iPhones share the same phone number, Apple says it works only with T-Mobile in the U.S. and Telekom in Germany at launch.
Paying monthly: Apple Card, Apple Upgrade and carriers
Paying in full is the cleanest route through the iPhone Duo pre order. If you would rather spread the cost, you have two Apple options in the U.S., and both come with fine print.
- Apple Card Monthly Installments. This is where the $83.29 a month figure comes from, over 24 months. You need to choose it as your payment type at checkout, and Apple’s terms say you must pick AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon as your carrier when you do.
- Apple Upgrade. A lease program run by Klarna, with 12-month and 24-month terms. The 24-month plan starts at $57.99 a month. Approval depends on your credit, and the first payment lands roughly 30 days after the phone ships or you pick it up.
The lease looks cheaper per month because you are not buying the phone outright. If you like to keep a phone for four or five years, owning it usually makes more sense.
Trade-ins are the open question. Apple’s announcement does not list trade-in values for this model, so the iPhone Duo price with trade in will only be clear once the store goes live. Run your old phone through Apple’s trade-in estimate on Friday morning rather than guessing now.
Why an Apple Store pickup might greet you by name
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that U.S. Apple Stores will be able to set up an iPhone Duo so the “Hello” screen shows the owner’s name the first time it powers on. The greeting is said to work in English or Spanish, and it is limited to the Duo bought through Apple’s own stores in the U.S.
Apple has not announced this itself, and it is not clear whether pickup orders placed during the iPhone Duo pre order will qualify, or if you can switch it off. It is a nice touch, not a reason to skip delivery if a store trip is a hassle.
What you are actually ordering
For anyone still on the fence before the iPhone Duo pre order, here is the hardware in short. The phone opens to a 7.6-inch inner display and has a 5.4-inch screen on the outside. It runs on the A20 Pro, the same chip as the iPhone 18 Pro models, and unlocks with Touch ID built into the side button.
Apple quotes up to 24 hours of mixed use when both displays get equal time, a 50 percent charge in about 20 minutes, and an IP68 rating. There are two 48MP Fusion cameras on the back, one main and one ultra wide. If you want the deeper story on the hinge and the design, our iPhone Duo analysis goes into it, and our full September event recap compares it with the rest of the lineup.
On protection, you can add AppleCare+ during checkout. AppleCare One is offered in some markets, and the Family version is U.S.-only. For a $1,999 folding phone, a screen plan deserves real thought rather than a reflexive skip.
iPhone Duo pre order questions
Can I pre order iPhone Duo with Verizon or T-Mobile?
Yes. The phone is eSIM only, and Apple lists AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon among the carriers that support it. Apple Card Monthly Installments buyers have to pick one of those three at checkout.
How hard will it be to pre order iPhone Duo?
Apple has not shared supply figures. As the first foldable iPhone at a high price, early demand is hard to predict, so being signed in and ready at 5 a.m. Pacific is the safest plan.
Can I pre order the iPhone Duo early, before October 16?
No. Orders open Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. Pacific, and not a minute sooner. You can still prepare your account, payment and carrier details beforehand.
Should you set an alarm for the iPhone Duo pre order?
If you already know you want one on October 23, yes: set the alarm, sort your eSIM carrier and payment plan tonight, and make the iPhone Duo pre order a quick checkout instead of a scramble. If the $1,999 price or the lease terms give you pause, waiting a few weeks costs you nothing but bragging rights. Folding phones reward patience more than early mornings.
