Until this week, Withings Apple Health sync was simply part of owning a Withings scale: pair it, flip the switch, and your weight landed in the Health app on your iPhone at no extra cost. Now that connection depends on when you opened your Withings account, and newcomers get a yearly bill.
Any Withings account created on or after October 13, 2026 needs a Withings+ membership, which runs $99.50 a year in the US, to keep data flowing automatically into Apple Health and other third-party apps. Older accounts are grandfathered in. If a new scale is still sitting unopened on your counter, read on.
Who keeps free Withings Apple Health sync
The cutoff is your account, not your hardware. In a reply posted on October 15 in the Withings support community, a member of Team Withings confirmed that automatic third-party syncing remains free for anyone whose account dates from October 12, 2026 or earlier. The perk follows the account, so adding a second scale to an existing login changes nothing.
| Your Withings account | Automatic sync to Apple Health | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Opened on or before October 12, 2026 | Keeps working | Free |
| Opened on or after October 13, 2026 | Requires Withings+ | $9.95 a month or $99.50 a year (US) |
| New account during its free trial | Works while the trial runs | Free for 1 month |
| New account after Withings+ lapses | Paused, data kept | Resumes if you rejoin |
The group that pays for Withings Apple Health sync is narrow: first-time buyers, plus anyone who opens a fresh account instead of using an old one.
What Withings+ costs and what else you get
According to the Withings+ page, the membership is $9.95 per month or $99.50 per year in the US, with a one-month free trial before any charge. Syncing is one line on the feature list. The rest includes:
- Extra scores. Heart Age, Readiness and Glucose Resilience.
- Health Assistant. An AI coach that tracks your trends.
- Cardio Check-Up. A cardiologist reviews your ECG within 24 hours.
- Partner services. Discounted medical services through Sunrise, Fay and Dune for US members.
- AI Connector. A way to hook your Withings data up to AI assistants.
If all you wanted was one number in the Health app, the price now buys Withings Apple Health sync you used to get for nothing.
What still works if you never pay
Your readings stay in the Withings app, and Withings says these tools remain open to every user:
- Downloading your complete history as a CSV or PDF file.
- Bringing in data from other apps.
- Sending results to a doctor through HealthLink or a PDF report.
A CSV file is a long way from hands-off syncing, though. Without Withings+, a new account cannot push weigh-ins into Apple Health on its own, so trends in the Health app, including the redesigned views covered in our iOS 27 Health app explainer, will have gaps.
What to do now if you just bought a Withings scale
- Check for an old login first. If anyone in the household has used Withings before, sign in to that account instead of starting a new one. An account opened by October 12 keeps Withings Apple Health sync free.
- Do not delete an older account. Starting over would put you on the paid side of the line.
- Use the trial wisely. The free month lets you test the extras. If you cancel, Withings Apple Health sync stops but your data is not lost.
- Ask support if unsure. Withings invites anyone unsure of their account status to contact its support team.
- Consider your return window. If free syncing was the whole reason you picked Withings, a returnable scale deserves a second look.
What Withings has not said yet
Withings has not said whether grandfathered accounts will keep free Withings Apple Health sync forever, or how family members added to an older account are treated. It also has not answered owners on its forum who argue that writing data to Apple Health happens on the phone and costs the company little. If you track Health Age on a new watch, our Health Age explainer shows why complete weight data matters.
Withings+ questions, answered
Is Withings+ worth it just for syncing to Apple Health?
For most people, no. At $99.50 a year, the membership only makes sense if you will also use extras like Cardio Check-Up or the Health Assistant.
Will my old Withings account lose sync if I buy a new scale?
No. Withings says free syncing is tied to accounts opened on or before October 12, 2026, not to the device, so a new scale on an older account keeps it.
What happens to my data if I cancel Withings+?
Automatic sync pauses, but Withings says no data is lost. Syncing picks up again if you renew, and you can still export your history as a CSV or PDF.
Should new owners pay for Withings Apple Health sync?
If your account predates October 13, do nothing: your Withings Apple Health sync is safe. If you are new and only want weigh-ins in the Health app, $99.50 a year is a steep toll, so lean on an old household login or reconsider the purchase while you still can. Pay for Withings+ only if the cardiologist reviews and extra scores appeal on their own. A bathroom scale should not need a subscription to talk to your phone.
