The MacBook Pro M7 release date is not official yet, but the best estimate right now is 2027, possibly as early as the first half of the year. Apple has confirmed nothing. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that two groups of M7 laptops are on the way next year, and an earlier report said they could arrive in the first half.
The more interesting part is what happens to the laptops Apple sells today. If he is right, the M5 Pro and M5 Max laptops without touch that Apple kept in the lineup last week have a short life ahead of them, and only the entry 14-inch would stay touch-free.
What to expect around the MacBook Pro M7 release date
The 2027 plan splits into two parts, and they are very different machines.
- A redesigned base model. The entry-level model would move from the M6 to a plain M7 chip and pick up the thinner, lighter body and slimmer bezels of this year’s high-end laptops. It would still have a regular screen.
- A second touchscreen generation. The follow-up to the PROLED XDR models would run M7 Pro and M7 Max chips.
Apple also looks set to skip M6 Pro and M6 Max entirely, and that jump is the source of the first-half MacBook Pro M7 release date window. So the early timing was tied to the Pro and Max chips, and the base laptop could land on its own schedule. He describes the M7 family as built mainly around on-device AI.
No month, price or chip spec has been reported. Treat the whole MacBook Pro M7 release date as a forecast until Apple says otherwise. This rumor also follows our earlier coverage of the touchscreen MacBook Pro, which did turn out to be real, though only on M5 Pro and M5 Max for now.
Why the non-touch Pro models may not last
Right now Apple sells the same two chips in two different bodies. Apple’s MacBook Pro page lists the 14-inch PROLED XDR model with M5 Pro from 3.0 pounds, while the older-style 14-inch with M5 Pro starts at 3.5 pounds. Gurman says touch, the tandem OLED panel and the Dynamic Island add about $400 to a matching configuration, so the 14-inch touch model starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch at $3,399.
That gap is the heart of the argument. “I’d be surprised if Apple continued developing non-touch versions of its high-end laptop models,” he wrote. Two parallel Pro lines add engineering, marketing and manufacturing work, all to protect a $400 price difference.
We think that logic holds. Someone spending close to $3,000 on a laptop is unlikely to balk at $400 for a better screen and a half-pound lighter body. The people who lose out are those who want Pro or Max power and have no interest in a touchscreen. Their only choice in 2027 may be to keep what they have.
Common questions about the MacBook Pro 2027 lineup
When will the MacBook Pro M7 come out?
Apple has not announced a MacBook Pro M7 release date. Current reporting points to 2027, with M7 Pro and M7 Max models possibly arriving in the first half of the year.
Is the MacBook Pro being discontinued?
No, the MacBook Pro line itself is not going away. Only the M5 Pro and M5 Max versions without touch are expected to be phased out when the next touchscreen models arrive.
What will the MacBook Pro 2027 price be?
No pricing has been reported. For reference, the 14-inch with M6 starts at $1,999 today and the 14-inch PROLED XDR model starts at $2,899.
Should you wait for the M7 MacBook Pro?
If you need a laptop this year, buy one, because the MacBook Pro M7 release date is still a forecast and a rumored Mac has never finished anyone’s work. If you want a thinner entry 14-inch and your current Mac is fine, waiting makes sense. And if you want a Pro or Max chip with no touchscreen, the current M5 models may be your last chance, so do not sit on that decision for long.
