Review Summary:

PROS: Provides proper protection, strong wooden frame. CONS: Poor build quality. Lack of attention to details.

If you really care about keeping your iPhone fully protected you’ll mostly use one of a folio-style cases. Even though you can find all kinds of cases, and there are even some very interesting subcategories inside a group of folio-cases alone, I believe these can offer the most rounded protection. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, you can also choose from wood and leather cases as well.

We recently reviewed several interesting cases made for various iPad models. What was in common for all of them is that they were made of a leather/wood combination, so they were premium priced. I think there are a lot of people who are willing to spend some extra money on a quality made case mostly because your tablet and smartphone should serve you for a long time so it’s important to keep them protected. Today we’ll be taking a look at a folio case made for the iPhone 5/5S. This one is made by a Greek company named Meison Morgan, and it’s priced at around $45.

Meison Morgan Case 1

This iPhone case looks like a typical folio-style case, made of wood and leather. While the wood is real, this is not a genuine leather, but a faux one. Inside you’ll find the wooden frame into which you can place the phone. As you can see from the pictures in this article, this frame is quite thick which isn’t really a downside. During the last couple of months I’ve tested several very elegant wooden cases, which tells me that even though this frame looks decent and strong enough, it could have been a bit more elegant. The good news is that it’s designed to perfectly fit around the phone, and there are three large cutouts for all the buttons and ports. The cover is also very hard and I believe that it’s also made of wood covered by some kind of textile protection. There’s also an elastic strap that keeps the case shut.

Even though I was somewhat impressed by this case the first time I tried it, it took several days to show its negative sides. The first thing I noticed was that the build quality isn’t as good as it looked in the beginning. Some edges started to peel off, which means that you could possibly fix this with some glue, but this isn’t something that should happen to a case priced at $45. Also, there’s one error in design which resulted in not as pleasing appearance. On the back side there’s the camera cutout that’s bigger in the case than in the wooden frame. This simply looks very unpleasing and this is a clear sign that details were taken care of properly, which directly corresponds to its poor build quality.

For around $50 you can buy some excellent premium-grade iPhone cases, made of natural materials and even hand finished. I thought this was going to be the case with the Meison Morgan’s product, but my experience proved me wrong.
