As you surely know, there’s an incredible number of available apps in the iOS App Store. Besides this, you can get a lot of content from the iTunes store, which means that you can download music, videos, books, HD movies and TV shows, and much more. What this means is that very often most of us are struggling with free space on our iOS devices. I am sure you’ve already found some shortcuts and tricks to save some of your content in the cloud. However, this can be great for certain occasions and not for everyday use, especially if you’re uploading large files like HD movies. Luckily, there’s a solution to this.
In this article we’ll present you LaCie’s Fuel. This is an external hard drive which brings wireless storage, meaning that it’s fully compatible with all your iOS devices and your Mac notebooks/desktops as well. A device like this one can be a great solution to those who like to enjoy in their rich libraries of digital content. Continue reading to learn more about its design and functionality.
On a first look I was a bit confused with LaCie Fuel since it’s looked like a combination of a standard external hard drive and an external DVD drive, but in a good way. I am glad to see that LaCie decided to put some effort while designing this product, since we can often see generic-looking drives. It’s also important to note that this product is made of ABS plastic, which feels strong enough to protect its components.
On the front side you’ll see a power button along with two LED lights. When you switch it on for the first time you’ll see the green LED lights followed by a flashing blue LED indicating that a wireless network is being established. After this process had been done, you’ll see the solid blue LED light. In order to access its contents you’ll need to join its Wi-Fi network from your iOS device.
The best way to preview content of LaCie Fuel from your iOS device is to download the free Seagate Media app. This application brings old-fashioned iOS design, and I was very surprised to see that its design hasn’t been upgraded for iOS7. However, you can use it to browse your content which can be filtered according to a file type. This way you can see groups like videos, music, documents, and so on. The good news is that you’ll be able to open, preview, and play all of those files right from your iOS device. You can also upload files from your iPhones and iPads wirelessly.
I also need to give you one good piece advice about this product. After you set it up for the first time I recommend setting up a password, which can be done within its iOS app. This app won’t tell you that you need to set it up, but this means that everyone can access your content in the meantime.
The biggest obstacle for LaCie Fuel is its price of around $200. It’s also disappointing to see that this company didn’t update their apps for the iOS’ newest aesthetics. However, if you’re willing to buy a wireless storage, this one is fully functional and performs well.
